Two British Champions in 2017 for SHARK Helmets

SHARK Helmets has added two British Champions to their racing stable this year following the season finale of the British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch this weekend.

In September at Oulton Park, Max Cook clinched the HEL Performance Motostar British Standard Class Championship with four races still to spare. The 14-year-old from Swindon was pushed by competitors but with 15 wins from 24 races and eight lap records, he showed his dominance in the class.

Speaking directly from the Red Bull Rookies selection in Spain this week, Max said: “It felt amazing to get the championship. Everyone had put in so much hard work and it was great that it had all paid off. I was so happy that I’d done the best I could.

“Even when I had the championship under my belt and the pressure was off, I still continued to try my best. For example, at Assen we were joined by some Northern European riders and I wanted to prove that I was up there and faster than them. I’m looking forward to the future now. I’m here in Spain for the Red Bull Rookies selection and will be taking part in the British Talent Cup next year. It’s all really exciting. A massive thanks to all my sponsors for their support as without them, my family and my team, I wouldn’t be able to do what I am doing.”

At Brands Hatch, Danny Buchan was crowned 2017 Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Champion. He went into the final race of the season 15 points ahead of his title rival. Holding his nerve in the race and crossing the line in second, Buchan won the title by ten points. The Morello Kawasaki rider took 10 victories throughout the season.

An ecstatic Danny said, “It feels great to take my second Superstock title. I’ve been wearing SHARK since 2010 so it was my seventh season with them - we’ve been through a lot together so it’s nice to pay them back with a win.

“Going into the weekend, I knew what I needed to do - which was to finish in the top five. I went in to do my best as I think if you start to change what you do then there’s a chance you could ride different and that’s when mistakes happen. If it was a different race then I would have challenged for the win, but I used my head and did what I needed to do. Now I’m looking into the future and what we can achieve next year, but first I need a bike. To celebrate, I got a takeaway and went home with my fiance and my little girl - not too much partying, I’ll save that for a few weeks time.”
